About the Forum

We are a Forum for Students in Candidate Classes and recent High School Graduates. This Forum brings together S.4, S.5 and S.6 students in high schools in Uganda including recent graduates (with-in 3 years from the time they left high school). As candidates in Secondary Schools  (especially with the country’s shift to a competency-based curriculum in secondary schools), we are highly challenged by four major issues; (a) Lack of suitable reading materials and notes because the existing traditional, knowledge-based revision materials on the market were rendered outdated (b) Limited knowledge regarding suitable subject combinations or marketable courses (d) Lack of access to appropriate further education, life and career opportunities and (e) Inability to link with fellow students in other schools or countries to be able to twin on curriculum-driven projects during school and thereafter.

We believe that it’s the above listed challenges that lead to major educational problems like high failure rates at national examinations levels because students lack reading materials. This also includes the persistent low rates among students currently progressing from secondary to Higher/ University education as well as the chronic unemployment because innocent and ignorant students make wrong course and career choices.

Why the Forum?

This forum that was found and is led by high school students in Uganda, under their agency; Youth Opportunities and Career Academy (YOCA Uganda) – annually adds on its membership thousands of S.4, S.5, S.6 and recent secondary school graduates to implement the following programs and activities;

What the forum does

  1. Securing and sharing subject notes and revision materials among its membership (S.4, S.5 and S.6 Students) across Uganda. This is helping students and ensures equity at national examination performance.
  2. Run on-line and face-to-face holiday revision classes led by fellow students, seasoned teachers, subject and syllabi specialists and qualified facilitators. The sessions help candidates to have national joint learning classes but are also a platform for candidates in schools or environments with restricted resources to equally benefit from quality materials required to successfully gain good grades at national examinations.
  3. Organize annual national course and career advisory symposiums and Expos for S.4 Leavers joining S.5 and High School Leavers joining higher Institutions of learning. This helps to prepare them on subject combinations or course choices including adapting to new environments.
  4. Create a platform for public institutions like UNEB and NCDC as well as private agencies to disseminate timely information on syllabi, curriculum, performance assessments and changes among others required by candidates.
  5. Coordinate higher institutions of learning like Universities as well as other partner agencies to share appropriate and credible further education opportunities, career enhancement and guidance programs.
  6. Develop a peer-to-peer student platform where candidates and recent high school graduates twin on projects and internships as well as collaborate on current and future career targets as well as secure peer-to-peer support to navigate personal and social challenges that chronically limit or inhibit admission, progression or success on their academic and career path.
  7. Organize student focused activities, courses and events that improve the academic, professional and social welfare of Students in candidate classes and recent graduates for greater educational outcomes.
