Job Overview
As an Intern, you will play a key role in supporting the Mandela Washington Fellowship, including programming administration, compliance, strategic communications, logistics, and technology. You will assist in various tasks such as data management, event planning, partner engagement, and virtual platform support. The internship offers valuable hands-on experience in international exchange and professional development programming.
Location: Headquarters – Washington, DC 20005, USA
Status: Full-Time, Hybrid
Duration: 6-month commitment (at least 20 hours/week)
Internship Duration: 6 months
Weekly Commitment: At least 20 hours/week
Compensation: $17.50 per hour
Your Background & Skills
- A Bachelor’s degree (in progress or completed)
- 1+ years of experience (work, volunteer, or internship)
- Interest in Sub-Saharan Africa and/or leadership development
- Experience in international exchange and professional development programming
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other software tools
- Ability to manage tasks independently and work effectively with diverse teams
- Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize tasks, and multitask
- Authorization to work in the United States
Key Responsibilities
As an intern, your tasks will include:
- Managing program email inboxes
- Compiling and tracking participant information and project data
- Assisting with the administration of fellowship platforms
- Contributing to reports, program materials, and content creation
- Assisting with event logistics and materials preparation
- Supporting communications with program participants and partners
- Contributing to social media and media content
- Supporting financial record-keeping and reconciliation of expenses
- Ensuring timely completion of program deliverables
- Adhering to IREX’s organizational values and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) principles
